This post is about a purse, but also not

I perused the showroom, on the hunt for a new fancy bag, one that would help me elevate my style. One caught my eye, in a brilliant blue and with ornate handles. It had ample space for storage and looked good. This is what I need to elevate my style. But I hesitated. I thought it was beautiful. Others would think the bag was beautiful. But was it me?

Was I pushing too hard to become a new version of myself? Would this version get relegated to the literal and figurative shelf as I continued to stay where I was comfortable?

I continued to hold the bag, admire it, and imagine wearing it. And then I had to admit the truth: It wasn’t me. Then I looked up, my eyes catching a bag in the same cobalt blue, but more casual. I could see it in my daily life. It was a slight elevation from where I was stylistically and provided a much more attainable shift in my wardrobe.

Now ask yourself, is there a change that you’re trying to make that’s just like that first bag? Maybe it looks great and is something that you aspire to become, but it just isn’t working. It’s too fast and too jarring. Maybe you run the risk of quitting it suddenly because the change was so sweepingly different than how you’ve been living your life. What is your other option?

If you look up, do you see an alternative, something like the second bag? Is there a change you could make that pushes you forward but is more attainable and sustainable? Where you can make a change that is more you, but better?
