I decided to do another round of the Augustinus Bader Skin Infusion. This time, I started with the Skin Infusion facial their Skin Lab in New York City. I still have one vial of the treatment left to go. And I started this program well over a month ago. And that is a problem.
This intensive treatment is designed to be used over the course of 1 month. You take the Vitamin D activator and apply 2-3 pumps morning and night. But did I do that? No. As much as I wanted this to work for me, I wasn’t putting in the work. I wanted to force it, but this was literally the wrong season in my life to try it again.
I chose to pick back up this regimen at the start of summer. That just happened to be the only time I could get to New York to try the Skin Infusion facial as the starting point this time. However, summer means hot days, high humidity. This product is a thicker, oil-based cream. In this heat, I found myself gravitating towards lighter weight formulas instead. Sometimes I would use this regimen. Other days I just skipped it and put on something that had more of a gel texture.
While I would love to use the climate as the real excuse, the real reason is that I just didn’t have my act together. I could have stayed the course and used this product twice a day, without worrying about it suffocating my skin. I have just honestly been lazier of late. There were far too many nights where I chose to forgo it just to try and use something else. And in the evenings when I was tired, the last thing I wanted to do was go through a multistep skincare routine. And (le gasp) sometimes I skipped washing my face to get to bed sooner. Do you think I was doing that step the next morning? If you said yes, you are very wrong.
Truth be told, even with my low fidelity to the program, I can speak to some of the results. The biggest thing that I notice each time I’ve done this is that my skin is more resilient. It can handle essences made with AHAs. Before doing the skin infusion, my skin is just too sensitive. But part way through, I can splash what could be an irritating essence and have no issues. This time however, I noticed that though most of my face was fine, the areas around the sides of my nose are still too sensitive to handle the acids.
Even though my behavior this time around says otherwise, I think the Skin Infusion is a good investment if you are someone whose skin has become sensitized and you want a relatively quick fix. I will personally use it again. But maybe I’ll wait to until the winter when my skin can use the extra moisture and or another time when I am able to act with more discipline in my skincare routine.
