What every techie knows

Tech support picked up to ask what the problem was. The apps weren’t talking to each other across devices. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t find a way to change the permissions or encourage them to work at all. After walking me through all the steps that I could use to remedy the problem, he said, “I’m going to ask you to restart your phone.”

How frustrating that it always seems to work that way? And it’s not just for technology.

There I was with so many things that needed to be attended to, including that one thing that set me down the anxiety spiral. And yet, I couldn’t get my brain to work on the problem. There was this one thing I needed to do first.

I unfurled my exercise mat, sat down on it, and fell back. There would be no movement, just stillness. I needed that pause to shift my mind. I slowed my breathing and took a break. While the end result wasn’t an amazing and easy solution, I returned to the work and got much closer to the end goal having slowed down.

There are times when you should try to push you way through. Sometimes you just need a reset. Step back, allow yourself to restart.
