This is what I wish every hotel room would include

I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I traveled quite a bit in the last few years, with the specific focus on what various hotel properties provide. Sometimes I was amazed by what I received, other times I found them lacking. As a result I’ve come together with a list of what I wish every hotel I visit could include.

  • Cupcakes
    • Okay. Maybe not cupcakes per se, but a welcome treat after a long day of traveling would be much appreciated
  • Slippers
    • I am anti-walking on hotel floors in bare feet., but I also don’t want to be walking around in my shoes all day. I can bring my own slippers, but it’s nice when there is a pair waiting for me to use instead. Bonus points if somehow they are my exact shoe size
  • Hand cream
    • This is not the same as lotion. I wish there was a little take away that I could place in my bag as I head out or to deeply moisturize my hands overnight.
  • Phone charger
    • Wireless or wall mount, just as long as it is compatible with my phone. And no I don’t want to pay $18.95 to buy one from the minibar when I forget mine.
  • Clear prices on the minibar
    • I just want to know how much the items cost. I would be more likely to try some of it, if it weren’t a mystery how much I’d be charged.
  • Nespresso maker
    • In room quality coffee, so I can do my work sessions without having to head out. Or alternatively, free well-made coffee from the lobby would work as well
  • Tea kettle
    • I do not want to get hot water through the coffee maker. It never gets hot enough and always includes coffee grounds or residue. Just make it easy for me to make my evening tea.
  • Filtered water
    • Yes, I can fill the kettle in the bathroom sink, but that feels wrong.
  • Ear plugs in the in-room amenity kit
    • I get it. You can’t always prevent sound from traveling, but help me out by including an option in my room, so I don’t have to call the front desk it. I’d also take a sound machine to get some soothing white noise.
  • Blackout shades
    • I hate that little sliver of light that comes through the curtains. Give me a room darkening option to get the kind of sleep I came on vacation for. Bonus points if it is also noise dampening.
  • Soundproof walls between guest rooms.
    • Why is this not already a thing?

I’m sure my list will continue to grow, but what about you? What do you wish every hotel would include?
