In latest episode episode of The Glossy Podcast, Danny Parisi interviews Sarah Davis, co-founder of Fashionphile. They spoke about how the heist at the Louvre might shift how luxury brands view their security. The way the robbers were able to complete their theft in broad daylight should ring asset protection alarm bells. They could have easily thought, that’s a museum. How they do security has nothing to do with what we do in fashion. But they didn’t, I absolutely agree that’s the right choice.
It is all too easy to assume that your reference point should be confined to your industry. You might think you would be best served by learning only from others selling products like yours, with clients like yours, or just those who are within your geographical area. But if you were to do that, you would be doing yourself a great disservice.
Seek your knowledge in wide ranging ways. Intentionally, look to see what people are doing in other industries. Learn from other product categories. Look at trends from the global data. Be open to those who think in completely different ways that you do. You can’t innovate without trying something new. Maybe it’s time to start looking for ideas in new places.
