Think of what fitness based competition you could sign up to participate in. I imagine what comes to mind is 5k, 10k, marathon, Spartan race. What is the commonality? It is largely cardio based. And how often do people, who are even into fitness, declare their hatred for running? With the growing fitness and wellness industry, that is a whole market waiting to be exploited. That is exactly what Christian Toetzke and Moritz Fürste thought
Taking that gap, the duo created Hyrox. what they call a fitness race. It is essentially a circuit of running and various fitness activities. With humble beginnings in Germany in 2017, it has already exploded to events around the world and world championship events.
It’s billed as the race for everyone. Or rather it is for everyone who wants to try can participate. If you need accommodations, you can email the event staff in advance. If you are a newbie you can take as long as you need, with no time cap. If you are an elite athlete, you can challenge to get on the podium.
Similar to running races, it provides you with a time. You get the chance to display it to your friends and have a marker for yourself. Because the events stay the same, you can compare your progress over time. After, presumably, you sign up for more races.
To fill the void in the world of fitness, they created an inclusive environment and measurable outcomes. It is monetizing a gymgoers favorite aspects of their gym. And the growing community is testament to that.
Hyrox is growing in popularity because the two founders looked to find the gaps in the market. As you look around, what the gaps that you can find? How can you build products to fill those voids?
