What politics has to do with marketing

Every political cycle, I feel like I get a lesson in communications and marketing. It might feel strange to say that. But at the end of the day, they are selling us an idea. They provide a vision for the future and that leads us to make a particular decision at the polls. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but they are essentially walking us through the AIDA model.

A – Awareness- How can I get people to know this candidate exists?

I – Interest- How can I get people to realize the value of the platform?

D- Desire- How can I shift their beliefs so that they want adopt our message?

A- Action – How can I drive them to officially buy the idea and either vote or join the campaign?

Listen, I am absolutely glad that this most recent cycle is over, but I will definitely hold on to some of the marketing lessons they left along the way.
