I’m sitting in a luxury hotel to celebrate myself. This week marks an anniversary. For four years I have been posting on this site daily. That makes 1,463 days. Today makes 1,464. When I noticed the milestone was coming up, I decided to go somewhere to mark the occasion in the most fitting way, doing the kind of things I enjoy writing about and experiencing. That would be traveling, trying new restaurants, and engaging in skincare and beauty. I chose to come back to one of the places that carried significant meaning to me, one of the first luxury hotels I experienced. I remembered at the time that I booked it originally, I wanted to finally know what it was like to stay somewhere, even though I was still ashamed of what others would think about my affinity for luxury. So here I am today, unapologetically staying here, going to a tasting menu only restaurant, and getting premium spa experiences.
I decided to look back at that first post that kicked off my consistent streak: Salmon Toast, Out of Focus. In that piece, I wrote about a dilemma I faced. I knew that I wanted to treat myself to a more expensive menu item, but I doubted whether I should make that choice. And then, I finally committed to it, allowing myself the splurge. I saw it as more than just about whether or not I ordered salmon toast. It was more a question of whether or not I would allow myself to have nice things and listen to and fulfill my own desires.
And here I am now, doing just that unapologetically. What a fitting full circle moment.
