I’m finally going to change

You know what’s disgusting? I have made it part of my personality to be chronically dehydrated. I have treated it as if it’s just an ongoing joke and not a habit that is slowly destroying my body and my mind. And because I am externally motivated, I’m enlisting you. I am declaring that I will drink 64 ounces of water everyday for two months. (Two because I’ve managed one before and then fell off. But maybe we’ll make it three. We’ll see).

To do this, I need bring to light all of my excuses and proactively address them.

I am going to be traveling. I will have busy days. I will need to be up early and out late. I will need do morning workouts. I don’t know if there will be a bathroom. Water doesn’t taste good.  And yet, I can’t keep waiting to do this.

Here is how I will do this challenge:

  • Assign a clear why for the importance of this behavior change. If I can hold on to a why, I can do anything.
  • Because my brain works on challenge and reward, I will make it a goal with a paper checkoff list to work towards a prize.
  • Each morning (or the night before), I will fill my water bottles so that I have 64 ounces ready to consume.
  • I will set a schedule for when I will drink water. The general times will be determined at the start of the challenge and tweaked at the start of the day if necessary.
  • I will allow myself to use flavor enhancers and carbonation to make drinking water more enticing.
  • While traveling, I will get a bottle that fits into my purse. Or perhaps just carry a larger bag to hold my standard bottles.
  • I will keep a bottle with me at all times.

I am, of course, skin and beauty focused on this blog. As such, I will tell you that I think that increasing my water intake will address the particular acne that is coming up for me and help me have more hydrated skin and healthier hair. But generally, I believe that addressing this will lead to feeling better in body and mind overall.

Along the way, I’ll track how things are going. But more importantly, this is a behavior change that I want to make permanent. This is Day 1. It’s time to make it stick.
