“Don’t you have a method for that?”
I was sitting in the kitchen, trying to contemplate my next move. Stuck in indecision, I waffled between continuing tasks at home versus the idea of heading out to a coffee shop. When he said that, I had to question myself, “Why am I making this choice so hard?”
Truthfully, I had already made a decision that today, I would head out early and park myself at a coffee shop to get work done prior to my next appointment. And yet, there I was trying to make that decision anew. “Surely, I should stay at home longer. Or maybe I should leave now.” I was wasting brain power and time. Those are after all the only benefits of worry.
Ironically, the longer I waited to make the right choice the worse my decision’s outcome would be. I would have less and less time with each vacillation. No matter which option I would have gone with 30 minutes prior would have yielded me more time to focus and a better result.
Perhaps, I should lean on something I had adopted long ago: Accept imperfection. Make mistakes. Allow yourself to do something, anything, rather than waiting for the right thing. Flip a coin, use a magic 8 ball, or whatever it takes, but don’t let yourself rest in indecision instead of living your life.
This is my reminder. The best decision is the one you make.
