Running out of ideas

To be a good writer, you can’t just write. You need something to write about. You need to read. You need to experience life. You need to have conversations. Words don’t just flow from nothing. You need to build a source from which you can draw. I have drained by source, and I have given myself no inspiration. But I guess that in of itself is my inspiration.

When we think about creativity, we sometimes treat it as something that is or isn’t. We neglect that it starts with something. To innovate means to think of what is and then develop that into what will be. You don’t have to start from scratch. You don’t actually need to have a bold idea that has literally never existed before. You just need to dig into what you already know, what already exists, and make small changes.

Where do your best ideas come from?
