As I laid on the spa table, I started to tell the aesthetician about my skin. “I have dry skin.” She brought over light and magnifying class and started examining my skin. “I don’t think you have dry skin.” I was assuring her it might have looked that way because I was using some stellar skincare products at the time. She continued, dry skin is connected to pore size and oil production. I think your skin is dehydrated.
I brushed off the highly qualified professional’s opinion and assumed I knew better. But that was something that I continued to think about. What really is the difference?
Very quickly, it is two different sources. Dry skin lacks oil, dehydrated skin lacks water.
Dry skin is a skin type, the way that your skin naturally behaves. You produce less oils. Dehydrated skin is a condition related to your environment or a temporary state. The wind is whipping all the moisture out of your skin. You moved to a desert state. You stopped drinking water, and now your skin is suffering.
Maybe, like me, you be constantly trying to use products designed to treat dry skin. And perhaps you’ve been constantly disappointed. Maybe it’s time to treat a different problem.
I’m not entirely convinced that my skin doesn’t have dry tendencies, but I’ll start looking more into dehydrated skin needs to thrive.
