A sigh for these World Cup tickets

I am just venting here. But please, can someone do something about World Cup ticket prices?

As someone based in the United States, I was excited about the event coming to North America. I looked forward to the possibility of getting a ticket. I event mentally budgeted for expensive prices. But nothing could have prepared me for this.

To buy tickets at the first launch, there was a sign-up list. Later you got notifications that tickets were released. Then you entered a queue to buy tickets. And then you left that queue realizing that tickets were either sold out or prohibitively expensive club level seating. And then later you would discover, no there are still tickets available for sale on resale sites, some authorized some not. And if you were unlucky, you discovered that your resale ticket was actually a scam. If you were lucky, you got to the site and were told that available seats you can see are actually sold out.

Believe me, I fully understand the desire and the need to make money, but there has to be another way.

What is the solution here and for other in-demand event tickets? Is the solution in finding ways to keep resellers at bay and make sure actual would-be attendees get the tickets first? Is it in revamping the online sales platforms to better handle traffic and deliver real-time updates on purchases? Is it in creating a lottery system for purchases? Or is the only way to go back to in-person ticket sales where you have to register with an ID to buy, a move to deter scammers?
