My gym app records how many visits I’ve had per week. It is depressing. Let’s not review the data. Now on January 1, like so many other people, I’m eager to commit to going more regularly. I will be a part of the New Year, New Me crowd.
Years ago, I used to go the gym regularly, all year long. And then when January hit, I had to brace myself for the crowds and the disruption it would cause to my routine. It was some consolation knowing it wouldn’t last for long. There would always be the inevitable drop off. And now I will be joining that crowd, the additional person taking up a machine that a regular is just waiting to see fall off.
I could be embarrassed that I’m on this side. I could be nervous to enter the space like this as a newbie. Or could just go, and let myself have a Day One and embrace the fresh start of the new year.
We all have a Day One, even if this is your second or third or nth time restarting. Even if you never thought you would be the person starting all over again. Not everyone is rooting for you, but I am. I want to see you hit your goals. I want to hit my goals. I hope we both can take this time to become the people we’ve dreamed of being. That starts now. Happy first day of the rest of your life. Keep going, you’ve got so much to achieve.
