I sprayed on Spiriteuse Double Vanille from Guerlain. I was lucky to get a sample of this superluxe fragrance from the brand. After I saw how quickly an influencer was going through her bottle, I assumed I would fall in love with it. Hmmmmm… that does not seem to be the case.
For me, this is reminiscent of my thoughts on Vanilla 28 (or rather once that one had a chance to sit and not smell chemically sharp). It wasn’t what I was expecting. I think because I have come to associate vanilla with desserts, I expect vanilla forward fragrances to smell sweet. This most certainly does not. It’s just okay for me.
I’ve said in a previous post that I am being more gentle in my reviews when I don’t like something because I know that my seasonal allergies might just be making it harder for me to notice and like fragrances. But I sprayed this on right before getting in the car with someone with a very sensitive nose, and there were no signals that my fragrance was noticed.
As the season goes on and my sinuses get a reprieve, I will give this fragrance another shot. Maybe I’ll like it, or at the very least get a good idea of what it exactly smells like. Until then, this is my first impression. Stay tuned for a round two.
But also, maybe I need to do a deep dive on vanilla in fragrances to better get to know the fragrance note.
