I just went to Sephora. I did my thing, playing with different shades and was on my way to the fragrance section. Then I noticed a group of people in the fragrance section with cameras. They were doing an interview. Then there was a woman, spinning with her phone camera in landscape to capture the whole store. And then there was a man walking through the store with a camera set on a gimble. While the rest of you are concerned that TikTok might actually be banned, I am secretly longing for the day.
I have gotten to the point now that I am over the influencer. Moreso, I am over the number of people who are seeking to become influencers and have turned the world into their film set. They are in the gym. In the grocery store. Conferences, events, and generally anywhere people are, you will find someone filming to capture the moment for their social media page. They need their content to “make it,” but I would rather not be an extra in the background. There has to be a balance between being real and authentic without forcing others to on camera with you. And also, there has to be some awareness about when your filming is being disruptive.
That is the end of my rant, but I’m curious about your thoughts. How often do you see “influencers” in the wild? What has your experience been and how do you think about this topic?
