Last year, solidcore, a pilates inspired group class fitness studio, posted their solidays challenge. Complete 10 classes in 15 days to receive a free sweatshirt. At the time I saw the challenge, I did the calculation of what I was capable of and then started to draft an email to the company. I wrote that it was unreasonable, and possibly dangerous to encourage people to take so many classes in a row. I mean, after all, it would be impossible to include a rest day between each of the classes. I suggested that they reduce the expectations. Maybe 6 classes could earn a sweatshirt. Instead of pressing send, I changed my thinking. What if I tried the challenge instead? What if I tested to see if it really were possible, difficult but not dangerous? So, I signed myself up for the classes and proceeded to try. At the end, I completed 10 classes and earned my sweatshirt. Again, it was difficult, not dangerous, and certainly doable.
This year, instead of fearing I anticipated. I waited for them to release the dates and eagerly signed up. This time I knew I was capable of more.
Completing the challenge gave me evidence of my capabilities. By doing something that scared me, I grew my confidence. It was in me the whole time. The challenge just revealed it.
Is there a challenge that scares you a little bit? What have you been meaning to try but are doubting yourself too much to start? What will it take for you to try and learn that really are capable of more?
