“All brands have a story.”

I’m taking a quick side bar here while I listen to Gap CEO Richard Dickson talk about his strategy to revitalize Gap and its brands. “All brands have a story.” That is what is sticking in my brain right now. What is your story?

He pushed listeners to tap into your origin story. That is the place to start. You have to consider you history and how that impacts what you should do today. The thing that got our started, whatever it was that first attracted people to your brand, the message that sparked your desire to start it. All of that impacts what and where you are. How can you look back to help you look forward?

I am taking away the idea that I should lean more into our story as I try to do more and better work in my day job. And truthfully, I could do the same for this blog and the habits that I want to build.  I am going to start back at the beginning.

Why did you first begin?
