In this culture of productivity and hustle, it can be easy to get in to the habit of comparing yourself to others and thinking about what they have accomplished that you haven’t.
I had been feeling completely inadequate. I had been feeling like there was no hope that I could take my career to a level that I wanted. I mean look at all the teenage millionaire TikTokers. I am well past my prime. I started to feel unmotivated. All I wanted to do was lie about and scroll looking for more videos to watch and obscure facts to learn. And because of all that, I felt guilty about not wanting to make a change. Then, being pretty astute when it comes to these things, I made sure to check in with myself.
As you go on your journey, if you find that you are struggling to keep up the goals you planned for yourself, take a step back before you try to force yourself to grind or hustle harder. Are you struggling because of actual laziness? Or is there a deeper issue you need to consider. How’s your health? Do you need sleep? Have you been drinking your water? What about your mental health?
I am not writing this to take you or myself off the hook, to just lie there instead of putting in work. I am writing this to make you aware that you may need to reach for solutions that you haven’t yet thought off. Rather than watching more David Goggins videos, you might need to think about sleep hygiene, better nutrition, and/or cognitive behavioral therapy. Hopefully that helps. This is your reminder to take care of yourself.
