If you are not new here, you’ll know that I am serious about my sunscreen, and unapologetically so. When I needed a new sunscreen that was both hydrating and travel sized, I figured the Day Dew Cream by Beauty of Joeson would fit the bill perfectly. With a name like, I stood in my local Sephora confident that it would leave me dewy and moisturized skin.
First and foremost, the packaging did slip nicely into my travel toiletry bag. We got a check there. But the hydrating part?
The first day I used this, I decided to use it like it was my sole moisturizer. That was a mistake. My skin was so dry that my forehead had visible dry patches and started to flake. I had to use my hand cream on my face to avoid an embarrassing experience while I was out. Definitely not ticking the hydration box there.
I would continue play with how much moisturizer I put on, but the end result was still me with dry skin shortly after. Where was my dew?
I went to website to check what skin type this was likely suited for, and I found this in the FAQs: “It adds a light layer of hydration but is designed to complement, not replace, your skincare routine. Apply it as the last step after moisturizer.”
It seems like maybe I was in the wrong here. This is not a sunscreen like those I’ve used before that double as your moisturizer. It has one job and one job only. The rest of your skincare routine better step up and do its part. However, I will admit that my skin tends to be finnicky with hyaluronic acid used in some skincare products. This still may not jive well with my skin, even with additional layers. But perhaps since I’d like a more hydrating sunscreen from the brand, I should try their Dayscreen.
This product experience brings up something else: International laws definitely affect the product choices available to me. The Day Dew had to be developed specifically for the U.S. context to fit within the regulations of our Food and Drug Administration. There is a different list of acceptable ingredients here than in Korea. It’s very likely that the brands Relief Sun would be better match for my dry skin, but they simply can’t sell it here.
If you are in the United States and are looking for a lightweight moisturizer to go on top of your extensive morning skincare routine, the Day Dew Cream by Beauty of Joeson might work well for you. But if you are looking for a dual-purpose product to be both a moisturizer and sunscreen, this is not the product for you.
