Now, in the quiet of the morning, I can finally smell the fragrance I frantically applied yesterday. Throughout the week, I’d been testing Cleopatra from Tocca, but I could barely detect the scent. Now I can smell something soft and ever so slightly citrus. It’s pretty. But do I like it?
I kind of see this as a crisp white shirt type of scent. I’m working on my definition of that, but here’s why I think that. It smells like someone who is put together, but it toes the line between casual and formal. The kind of woman who’d wear this is feminine but not ultra-feminine, chic but not too fussy. She enjoys wearing a handbag, but it doesn’t have to be designer.

$92 for 50 mL
Top: Bitter grapefruit, lush greens, cassis bud
Heart: White jasmine, peach nectar, tuberose
Base: Warm patchouli, golden amber, rich vanilla musk
As far as recommendations, I can’t be too harsh. I have certainly been limited given now that yet another allergy season has limited my sense of smell. However, I don’t know if this soft pretty scent fits my current vibe. I do highly recommend you try this for yourself if you like a citrus floral that isn’t too overpowering.
If you want to try Cleopatra before committing to a bottle, you could always get a discovery set first. Or if you have a local Anthropologie, check to see if they stock this fragrance in store to test it out on skin.
(A quick post-script: This isn’t the type of scent that I imagine the alluring queen Cleopatra would wear. Now I’m off to do a deep dive into the fragrances that Egyptian royalty would use. If I find anything particularly interesting, you’ll hear about it on this blog. )
