A Kilian fragrance to reclaim your royalty

I was on a mission to buy something, anything. That is a dangerous position to be in when you’re a luxury fragrance store. But there I was, exploring the Kilian store, on a mission. I was taken by a relatively new release: Her Majesty. I don’t recall being particularly excited by the fragrance as I sniffed the entire assortment, but it felt like the right choice to come home with me. Mostly because it was available in the travel size. Though the newness of it gave me something to explore.

And then, I remembered it after a particularly tough week. The blows to my self-confidence made me look with particular interest at a fragrance with a name like that. Naturally, I decided to wear it everyday for the last two weeks.

Her Majesty eau de parfum

$50 for 7.5 mL

Notes

Top: White peach, rum

Heart: Rose, ambrette seeds

Base: Papyrus, cedarwood

In the beginning, I got the sharp bitterness that comes with an artificial fruit note on me. But as I continued to wear it throughout the weeks, that’s not something that I noticed. Instead, it became something is just soft musky florals. I didn’t notice the peach, the amber, the rum, and other notes listed. Just a feminine softness. It’s so soft that I got in to the habit of spraying heavily, to make sure that something took. I don’t know if anyone noticed my scent throughout the day, on my travels, or in any meeting. I did get a “the room smells nice” after spraying it though.

The projection wasn’t there on my skin, but did it need to be? The scent is almost like the confidence of a bloodline heir. It has no reason to be loud in its announcement. The subtlety of what it is there, just as if the confidence of who she is as a royal is there in her DNA. As long as I know it is there, does it matter if anyone else recognizes it?

I don’t know if it was the fragrance’s doing, but my confidence started to increase throughout the week. I regained more of my gentle knowing of who I am and what I bring to the spaces I enter. I can see myself continuing to wear this a subtle everyday and work scent, at least until the bottle is emptied.

Now, though this is a soft musky scent on me, your experience may differ based on your body chemistry and skin type. People on the internet are saying that they get the juicy peach. I’d be curious to learn what it’s like on you. If you choose to give it a try, let me know what you think.

If you are into luxury fragrances and what to try something that is soft and feminine, try Her Majesty by Kilian.
