Bath & Body Works is betting on Hype

I was strolling through the Bath & Body Works website looking for some candles on sale. But then something unusual caught my eye: Hype Lab.

On September 23, the brand will have three limited drops

  1. Angel Hair Chocolate:   Sweet, fruity chocolate, with a playful edge
  2. Strawberry Dubai Chewy Cookie: Sweet, pistachio and chocolate, calling to mind the viral hit
  3. Japanese cheesecake: Tangy and sweet, with a touch of caramel and cinnamon

If you look at the descriptions, you’ll notice something. The first being that they are all sweet, gourmand fragrances. The second is that they are all based on viral food trends.

These appear to be very limited drops, with just 200 in each batch. But at 12.95, I can’t tell what their angle is. It’s limited, but accessible to everyone. Do they just want to see if their site crashes on Day 1?

I won’t be ordering one of these fragrances, but I will be watching more of what they do to stay relevant.

I will however be heading into store to pick up a Morning Tea candle while it’s $10 off.

What do you think about this forced hype? Would you buy any of these scents?
