I am all about skin care all year round, but my routine needs to change with the seasons. I was getting ready to reach for a new essence to address some texture, and then I remembered: It’s summertime. I don’t mean to say that you can’t use essences during the summer, but I would personally advise you to check the ingredients and your summer plans
For me, the essence I was going to grab was formulated with Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Those tend to make skin more photosensitive. Personally, I will be outside this summer. That means long hours in the sun and likely some missed sunscreen reapplications. I want to be mindful that I don’t make my skin more likely to get damaged by the sun right before all my time in the sun.
I would suggest you pay attention to the active ingredients in your summer skincare. Maybe you are also using a heavy AHA product. Or maybe you are starting a retinol routine. If you are planning to put those ingredients on your face right before you head off for your beach vacation, think a little. Maybe you wait until you get back, or maybe you get extremely committed to using and reapplying sunscreen and finding shade whenever possible.
You can use your skincare whenever you want throughout the year. It is your face after all. Just make sure you take the necessary precautions so that you are not causing more harm than good.
