So, about the cleansing balm from Augustinus Bader

I continued my Augustinus Bader journey by getting to know their cleansers. For me as someone who struggles with dryness, I decided to give the cleansing balm a go.

Let’s get the positives out the way.

My skin never felt irritated. It broke down and helped remove makeup. My skin never felt stripped and dried out as a result of using this product.

And now to the negatives.

The biggest one is that I felt like it left a film over my eyes when I used it to remove eye makeup. I never found a good technique to keep that from happening, other than not using it on the eye area.

The second negative is that it’s just okay.

Mind you, I try a lot of cleansers. I am comparing this to other cleansing balms and oils, on the basis of experience. Unless it’s just me, and I was using it wrong, it didn’t lend itself to the luxury spa-like experience. Personally, I keep mentally going back to the Eve Lom cleanser, that included instructions to apply warm damp cloth to support cleansing in such a way that it led to me to slow down. And it was effective and gentle. Or the Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser, which includes an herbal scent and was perfect for everyday cleanses. Plus, the pump mechanism made it easy to use quickly.

For me, this cleansing balm was fine. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t life alteringly amazing. If I wasn’t already ordering Augustinus Bader products from the site or trying to do a one brand routine, I don’t think I would seek it out intentionally for repurchase. It’s a good product, but the cleanser landscape is vast. There is just so much out there to try.

But if you haven’t tried any Augustinus Bader products before, this might be one for you to try. However, I’d recommend you start with a moisturizer, as those of the heroes of the brand.
