You already have a vacation home

I had some vacation time to use up. It was set to expire. Even though I had no trips planned, it was a use-it-or-lose-it situation. I chose to use it. I submitted the time, set my out-of-office message, and headed off.

A few relaxing afternoons without rushing about between appointments. The freedom to linger in the local coffee shop I’d been meaning to try. A shopping trip to the mall to finally replace my uninspiring wardrobe. Just days filled with things I was hoping to do, with none of the have-tos

Even though I enjoy writing about my travels, this is your reminder that you should take your vacation time whether you have a trip or not.

In your own home, you can let yourself sleep in, cook that complicated recipe you could never find the time to make, read that book. You can finally go to the gym, get your hair colored, browse the grocery store. You can use your time away to just stay in.

If you have the funds and want to do a staycation at a local hotel, by all means do it. But if I were you, take the time to stay at the vacation home you already have.

After all vacation is a state of mind. You can take a vacation anywhere.
