The sweetness of Madurai, by Memo Paris

I blindly took the sample from the pack and sprayed it on my wrist. With the first whiff of Madurai  by Memo Paris., I thought, “I know that scent.” It was a powdery floral that registered in some part of my brain. “Jasmine, that’s what it is.” And yet at the same time, it was slightly sweet, subtly fruity. I sprayed on my wrists and went about my day.

Madurai eau de parfum

$340 for 75 mL (pricy, I know)

Notes:

Top: Lemon essence, Bergamot essence, Curcuma essence, Clary Sage essence, Peach accord
Heart: Jasmine Sambac, Tuberose absolute, Jasmine absolute, Tagete essence
Base: Sandalwood Album essence, Suede accord

The next time I wore the fragrance, I doubled up spritzes in all the zones. And now, the following morning, I can still smell it still on my wrist. It’s now much less sweet, much less fruity. It’s purely floral, with slight woodiness. Even though, no one commented on my fragrance, even though I can’t speak to its projection, it has staying power. Here it is the following morning, and it has lingered on my skin.

This fragrance feels feminine and sweet, which does not match my current personality. I’m trying to think of when I would wear this. Maybe after bathing, in moments when I want to feel extravagant whilst lounging. Or perhaps at those times where I am moving slowly and intentionally throughout my day, caring for self and others. Or maybe just to send myself on a mental vacation to another place.

Perhaps this fragrance isn’t me, but maybe this brand is. Just going through the product page, it is clear that they truly enjoy the world of fragrance and are proud of what they’ve created. There is an attention to detail that I have not seen from other brands. I am only now exploring the product page after I made up my mind about the product. However, the way they write about the ingredients and notes is with a depth that takes me on a journey and inspires me to go back and give the scent another scent.  I appreciate the details, images, and words to describe something that is as difficult to capture as fragrance.

Maybe you are an intense fan of jasmine, then it’s time that you go and try and smell Madurai for yourself. But even if you are just a lover of fine fragrance and beauty, I highly recommend you explore Memo Paris for yourself.
