In 2024, Sol de Janeiro decided to get in on the joke. After months of people questioning whether their newest fragrance was a spider attractant, they chose to play on that trend. Instead of fighting the strange public relations controversy that had people assuming their fragrance was attracting wolf spiders, they decided to “make something that definitely would.
As an April Fool’s Prank, they decided to release their Cheirosa 8 scent with an Instagram scent. The spider salve and body spray were “specially formulated with spider pheromones” to attract spiders.

And honestly, it was brilliant. It showed they were listening and responding to the their customers and the market. It also showed that they could have a little bit of fun. It was the perfect move for April Fool’s.
Contrast that with this year’s post, a collab with Laneige. A fake lip sleeping mask with the Cheirosa scent.

Meh, it is clearly a joke, but it’s not a moment. But I guess that can’t happen every year.
