Imagine a distinguished gentleman, nursing a high ball glass of his favorite liquor, as the saxophonist’s melody heals his soul. This, I imagine, is the scene Maison Margiela Replica hopes to evoke with Jazz Club. To me, this scent is undeniably masculine and refined. It smells like a man in the best way. It’s not the overpowering scent of someone getting way too close to you in a night club. Instead, it’s one who calmly and respectfully starts a casual and enjoyable conversation.

$89 for 30 mL
Notes:
Top: Pink pepper, primofiore lemon, neroli
Heart: Rum, clary sage, vetiver
Base: Styrax resin, tobacco leaf, vanilla bean
While the brand describes this as having a smokiness by way of the tobacco leaf, it doesn’t read that way on my skin. This would be closer to the uncut cigars than a hazy room. If you want smoke, go with their other offering, By the Fireplace.
I have been wearing this personally over the last few days. I’m not a man, but I don’t feel it is unwearable for me as a woman. Because it isn’t feminine or floral, it is slightly subversive which leads some power to the refinement.
I’ve enjoyed getting wafts of the fragrance coming back to me throughout the day. The longevity on my skin has been pretty good. I can’t speak to how well it projects or if anyone else likes it on me as much as I do. That is likely a combination of the cold weather, me being bundled up, and generally people’s lack of desire in commenting on others.
I have already described scene where I imagine this scent being worn, but I also think it could be great for date night and special occasions. But if you spray sparingly, this could be your everyday scent. However, I don’t think this is the scent I want on me in the heat of summer. I would imagine myself keeping it to chillier weather in fall and winter.
Admittedly, I love a tobacco note. But perhaps, this won’t be for everyone. But if you have been looking for a masculine scent to carry you through the winter, this might be one to check out.
