It was a bright spot in a relatively undesireable hotel stay. The Alderman is tucked away inside the Hilton Motto Hotel in New York City. I was honestly surprised by the presence of a restaurant and bar in a lower priced hotel. But there it was, there to support me with my food needs.
On the first night I went, I decided to just quickly come down and take part in their $10 Smashburger Sunday. Little did I know that to get fries would cost an additional $10. However, once I got back to my room to enjoy my meal, I found it to be worth it. The fries were packed to the brim and were thin, crispy, and properly salted. Just the way I liked it. And the smashburger is in the running for my favorite room service burger, if it would be fair to put into the category.
The second night, I went for lighter fare. I ordered an endive salad and another round of my beloved fries. As I waited for the order to cook, I waited at the bar and sipped a mocktail. I appreciated that it wasn’t just a glorified fruit cocktail. They took the non-alcohol drinker seriously.
If I were forced to stay at the Motto again, I would find it some consolation that it would bring me closer to such a restaurant. I do wonder how the rest of the menu tastes. I would be happy to try their pre-theatre menu if I got a chance.
If you are in the Times Square and looking for a tucked away restaurant, give the Alderman a try.
