Not just marketing

The best movements, those that changed the course of human history, came because they shifted how people thought. They either felt inspired to move towards a better world, or they got on board for fear of losing what they had. I have been wondering that while there are no products to be sold, maybe that, too, is marketing.

To build a movement means to get to know what people need and deliver solutions. It entails spreading information through storytelling. It requires thinking about the issues of where the work will be done. And it includes thinking about the real cost of the work. That sounds a lot like product, promotion, place, and price.

What if thinking like a marketer is key to building a movement towards lasting change?

Maybe it feels gross or disingenuous to call it marketing. But the fact remains, building a movement takes strategy to move towards solutions. Change comes through a myriad of ways, but it comes first and foremost through people. How will you move people?
