Scrolling down my feed I saw that Wingstop has a new offering: their Protein Pack. As they say, it is “packed” with 160 grams of protein. Honestly that sounds pretty good to me right now.
But here’s the thing, isn’t just their regular wings with a compelling new name? Yes, yes it is just literally a pile of WingStop’s classic wings. There is not special menu add on. It’s just meat.
Rather than just calling this ridiculous, as I think it is, I’m going to give it some more thought. Right now, people, especially young women, are in a protein phase. High protein diets are trending as people try to maximize results to get their ideal body. For many of those people, they might think about protein enriched foods as an option but never think to themselves, “Maybe we can get some wings.” By making it obvious, WingStop is marketing to those people. They are saying, “Hey we’ve got the protein you’re looking for.”
Personally, this approach wouldn’t work for me, because I see it as akin to advertising vegan apples. It is so obvious that it seems like there’s a catch some where. But what about your thoughts? Do you think this is a good approach? Would calling meat a high protein food make you more likely to buy it?
