Years ago, when I was deciding which high powered blender to buy, I watched hours of content. There were the comparison videos that pitted Blendtec against Vitamix. The diehard Blendtec fans hyped it’s preset functions and easy of use. The one thing they wished was that they had the Vitamix tamper that black stick you see people using to push down the ingredients of their smoothie bowl to keep the blender moving smoothly. Users would have to stop the machine, stir the ingredients, and then restart, only to have to continue this process repeatedly for especially thick recipes. For their part, Blendtec responded by highlight their Wildside jar shape how it used physics to keep things sucked into the blades. Then they created the Twister Jar, with two scrapers that extended into the jar, for you to spin as the blender was going. There were even people who had made their own version of a tamper specific to the Blendtec model. People were dedicated to Blendtec, but it had issues.
Now, in partnership with Chef Geoffrey Zakarian they have created the Zakarian Pro Blender. And it looks awfully familiar.
They say, via their press release, that they are adapting the same professional level tools for home use. But let’s be real, it seems like they are adopting many of the same features that people love about their Vitamix. Gone are the buttons, and in their place is a dial for speed and switch to toggle between blend and pulse. There is no more display for blend count. And most importantly, there is a tamper.
It seems like the brand has owned its issues and are finally offering home chefs the tool they have been asking for. Personally, I think the next step is to just offer a tamper as an accessory that you can order regardless of the model you’re buying from the brand.
This release is too new to be on the Blendtec subreddit, but I imagine it will be discussed their soon enough. Also, if you are super into high powered blenders, you can pre-order yours now.
