Years ago, in the midst of crisis, Victoria’s Secret cancelled its annual fashion show. Among other things, people said that the fashion show was catering to the male gaze and put forth unattainable image of female bodies. But now it’s back. I sat there watching livestream, and saw that the lineup in 2025 included an openly trans model, very full figures, and athletes. But is it enough?
Over 3 million streaming views so far might say yes.
With the show over, I went to the site to learn more. And that seems to be the point. It isn’t just an event. It’s a sales strategy. How can they continue to drum up interest in their product, specifically the aesthetic of a VS Angel to sell more product?
I’m going to keep digging to learn if their sales projections are up as a result of the return of the show, starting in 2024. But I’m also going to head in store to see if I can smell the limited edition Bombshell Soiree, because they’ve got me there with that one.
What are your thoughts on the show? Do you think they should continue the practice?
