Starbucks recently debuted a series of high protein drink options. At the base of the drinks is essentially a “protein milk” or “protein cold foam.” You could add this option in to pretty much any drink. Personally, I would only do it iced. If you’ve ever been super into your fitness and added protein powder into your coffee, that is basically what it tastes like. It’s not exactly novel. And truth be told has had protein powder on the menu before. To me, it feels like a late move to capitalize on the fitness craze. But maybe it’s right on time.
Even though, a large portion of the country has been diet conscious or focused on their “macros,” there is now a renewed trend focusing on increased protein content. Before it was the muscle building gym-bros and gym girlies and the low carb dieters preaching about it in their circle. Now it is much more widespread, with many a TikTok influencer preaching the importance of protein and challenging themselves to hit 100 grams a day. To them and their followers searching for more dietary protein sources, this feels like an easy way to effortlessly blend this new lifestyle with their regular habits (also known as a Starbucks run.)
As they say, there’s nothing new under the sun. What’s old becomes new again. And sometimes you can meet the need of current trends with easy tried and true solutions with a little twist.
What are some other “new” trends that you’ve noticed that you could address with some solutions from the past?
