The end of an era at Armani

I read the header of the email and gasped: Mr. Armani has died! I instantly dove into the story, the retelling of his life and career. The man who started this luxury house after his own name, this man who maintained heavily involved in the line until the end of his life at 91.

I never met the man, nor will I ever, but I can’t help but think about the hole that is left behind in the fashion house. And then I thought about the race to fill it. The race to sell the company, the major luxury holding houses waiting to add it to the portfolio.

And then I thought about the smiles.

I thought of the smiling models, whose show of joy shocked me in sea of austere, serious looking models in the modern fashion presentation calendar. That doesn’t just show up. That comes from someone. It must have come from Mr. Armani.

From the outside looking in, Armani was different. It was human. I hope at least that remains the same.
