As a child, at some point, I discovered Style TV. I would sit there watching their replays of fashion shows. And when that was over I would watch their original programming as women got makeovers and learned how the get the look for less. Younger me believed that I would have a life in fashion. I would of course become a designer or at the very least be the most stylish person in town.
Fast forward to today, I’ve got a casual desk job not in the fashion industry. It’s still calling my name. That dream that I had as a little girl is still there. I want to attend a fashion show. I want to be in the room as the art walks down the runway. I want to be among the audience contemplating what statement the designer was trying to make the designs.
With the advent of social media and other technologies, I have more access to the runway than ever before. I can watch pretty much any show I want (except The Row, of course). But just like I did all those years ago, I still dream of attending my first show. Being present online is not the same as being in-person, for any experience, let alone experiencing the fabrics and textures.
I know that it will happen one day in the future that I will attend a fashion show of a major brand. I don’t know when that day will be, but I’m already excited for it.
