North Korea, a nation that has long shrouded itself under secrecy has opened up a luxury beach and tourist area. I can tell you right now I have no intention of booking a trip. The Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area is located on the shorefront, with beach access as well as cultural and “touristy” amenities. But regardless of how luxurious the hotels might appear, can we really call it luxury?
I imagine they will likely have excellent customer service as they try to woo foreign travelers and increase their economic development. However, if those same travelers are also heavily under surveillance and have their movements restricted, I can’t imagine that would a creme de la creme experience.
Of course, there will be those who will still travel there just to say they went. Recently, there were stories of people trying to cross the demilitarized zone. Why not just hop on a plane and enter the country in the lap of luxury instead?
I will stand back and wait for someone to post a “I stayed in a luxury resort in North Korea” video. But just know you won’t get a post like that from me.
