Fireworks are going off outside as many gather to celebrate this day off work and “independence” day. But do you really feel free? Do you feel like the choices you make are your own? Or do you feel compelled to follow the norm, follow orders, and overall do what others tell you is the best path? Do you feel like you can really forge your own way, have your own unique thoughts, and overall have a life that is all your own?
In the midst of the festivities, and perhaps considerations of geopolitical realities, can we think more deeply about this? Can we think more about what it might mean to live lives that are truly our own? What does it mean to stake our own independence of self?
