I was honest. “I feel like I should cancel the trip and just stay home. I don’t know why I feel that way.” Quickly, she said, “Oh I know why. It’s because that’s your M.O.”
It stung. My M.O. My modus operandi, or way of doing things. Over the course many of conversations, it became clear that I had, as a standard operating procedures, a way of doubting myself. A pattern of playing down my deservedness for big things. You could say that it had in ways become tantamount to my image because it’s become such an expected behavior.
I don’t want one of the first thoughts that someone has when thinking of me to be, “She doubts herself. It’s time for me to find a new way of doing things, of viewing things, of thinking things.
I think it’s time to get a new M.O.
