Just a sample

I walked past the deli counter. “Would you like a sample? We’re having a sale.” With both hands, she offered a rolled piece of deli meat and a package of slices. “Just the sample, please.” I took the morsel and walked away.

That might seem like an odd story. But as a shopper and people pleaser in reform, that was a growth moment. You don’t have to buy that item.

If a salesperson is pushy, it is because that salesperson wants to make a sale. However, it doesn’t have to come from you. You don’t owe that business anything, solely because you walked into the door. It is okay for you to just come to look and learn about the products. It is even okay for you to try things on and still not buy that item.

For the people pleasers out there, if you only want a sample, that’s okay.
