When I got the Laneige Bouncy & Firm Eye Sleeping Mask , it was not at all what I was expecting. And that’s on me. I was expecting a moisturizing cream. Something that hydrated my skin and left it feeling and looking plump. Nope I think the name was more so describing the product itself.

Bouncy & Firm Eye Sleeping Mask
$32 for 20 mL
I opened the jar and noticed it was a thick gel, similar in look to jelly candy, but softer. When I did my initial testing, I put some under my eyes and went to sleep. When I woke up, my undereyes were tighter and drier. The product was visibly on top, well, like a mask that dried out and hadn’t absorbed. And then I tried it and failed again. And then I went in-depth to learn how to use the product. I was doing it wrong. The goal of the product is to do what it did, sit on top of the skin while it locks in another product doing the real work.
You have to layer this product over another eye cream. I didn’t have an assortment of eye creams at my disposal (because why would I) so I put this over the Dior Hyalushot. And then because I was just curious, I layered it all over my face, to trap in the moisturizer. I woke up and my eyes were irritated and swollen all day. I looked and felt like I was ill. Clearly, I can’t blame Laneige, because I certainly didn’t use it as directed. However, that foolish mistake helped me test on a larger scale how well the product could lock in moisture. It did not. My skin did not feel better hydrated.
Any bias due to my mistakes aside, I don’t personally think the Bouncy & Firm Eye Sleeping Mask has a place in my skincare routine. While it does claim some benefits from its key ingredients, it largely relies on me having a second eye cream on deck. I don’t want to commit to using two eye creams. In addition, I don’t like the tightening sensation, the residue the product leaves that has to washed/scrubbed off in the morning, or the texture of the product at all. I wouldn’t rebuy, but this might be the product for you if you are seeking a tightening action or if you have eye cream you love but want to add a little oomph to.
I am willing to admit I could do for some more learning about how to use this product best. Perhaps that would change my mind. If you have used this before, let me know what your experience was in the comments. Or let me know about an eye cream you’ve found that you would personally recommend.
