When the parking lot relatively empty, I like put a little cushion between me and the next car. I leave multiple spaces, I try to avoid parking right in front of others. If there is the room, why not use it. And yet, invariably, I return to my car to find my car flanked, and often by massive SUVs or pick-up trucks. It is a major pet peeve of mine and the constant source of questioning. Is there some energy in my car attracting others towards it? Is my car perceived as a leader? Is there some conspiracy that I am not aware of? I have so many questions but here is the answer. I don’t know and I may never know, so it is time to let go.
If the same thing keeps happening over and over again and I don’t like it, I can either choose to accept it or change it. Since I know there is a high likelihood that my car will be flanked, I can choose to park next to smaller cars myself. Or I can make the conscious choice to let it go. I can choose to let other people’s actions to be their problem and not mine to solve.
At this point, you can probably feel my mind shifting to other aspects of life. I can easily continue to complain about the things that annoy me, the things that I know continue to happen. But I can also choose another way. I can choose to reduce the likelihood of it, whenever possible, or I can lean into acceptance.
As for now, I think I will lean more into curiosity than annoyance, and choose have a chuckle at my car’s magnetic personality.
