How are your resolutions coming along? At the time I’m writing this, we’re not even two weeks in to 2025, but that doesn’t mean things will have been perfect. I for one am doing a reassessment. I started with a lot of good intentions. It is time to start getting more specific. I know what the end goal is, but I haven’t taken the time to think about how my behavior needs to change day in and day out to get to that point.
For example, I want to make sure that I am exercising more regularly. Great, easy. Except, to reach that goal, I need to start thinking about more than just exercising. Where will I exercise? If I am going to the gym, I will need to budget time to get there and back before I need to start my tasks for the day. If it is at home, I need to set up my playlist ahead of time so I don’t end up scrolling and searching or something good and just running out of time. I need proper shoes and clothing. I need water. And I am going to have to eat something. The goal is to exercise, but there are many other choices that I will have to make that don’t seem so obvious at first blush.
Yes, it is good to “just get started” and not worry about all of those details in the beginning. But now that the habit is getting built, I want to make sure I make the choices necessary to structure my life so I can keep the momentum going.
