“Happy New Year! I’m still waiting for the new me to download.”
I sent the text as a play on the commonly said phrase, “new year, new me.” It was a joke, but based on how I spent my day today, it seems I believed my words to be true. As I made my pizza quesadillas after a work day largely spent unfocused and a whole lot time scrolling YouTube, you would think I really believe I will change without effort. Somehow, and I’m not sure how,I will wake up one day healthier, with more discipline, Truthfully, this post is really for me.
The new you will not be automatically downloaded, like a scheduled upgrade just because a new year has begun. The new you will not magically manifest because you want it really bad. There is no sense in waiting for the new you. The new you is the old you who finally decided to do the work, to put in the time, and make the effort. You get to make the new you however you want, but it will take time. Let’s get started now.
