I entered the dimly lit room hoping it would be exactly what I needed. It was the start of my session on the Spa Wave Table at Equinox Hotel Hudson Yards. I had been looking forward to trying this treatment since February, back when my plan had been thwarted when it was out of service. Now, I was finally getting the chance to experience perhaps a quick fix to overcome my constant fatigue.
The spa claimed that just a 30 minute session would provide the equivalent of three hours of sleep. I needed to put it to the test, especially after a string of far too many late nights.
When I showed up to my session, I was a bit concerned because my session would take place in the evening. Would this just make it harder for me to sleep later in the night? I was told no, it probably would help me sleep better by helping with my circadian rhythm.
I laid myself down on the table, covered with the weighted blanket. I put the eye mask and the headphones and waited for the binaural beats and waves from the mat to push me into a gentle slumber.
And then I waited. And I waited. And the slumber never came.
I started to get anxious that the session would come to an end and here I would be unrested. I would try and force myself to make my mind blank, only to return the anxiety of time wasted. I kept going like that, trying to I suppose exist on the table the right way to make it work. I kept trying to empty myself of thoughts only to have more rush in. Finally, I decided to stop fighting it.
I let myself become pay attention to everything I was experiencing. I listened intently to the beats. I let the sounds play on my imagination and created my own scenery. I entered my own technicolor world instead of being concerned that I was still cognizant of this one. And then the attendant came. My session was up. I hadn’t napped or dozed off at all. Did it even work?
Afterwards, I took the evening fairly easy. I simply had dinner in my room and packed with mindless tv playing in the background. Then I went to sleep.
The next day, as the afternoon hit, I checked in with my body, confused. “Where is my good friend fatigue and her buddy fits of yawning? Why do I feel like I have so much energy? Why do I feel, so well rested?”
Of course there could be multiple factors involved, but just maybe the Spa Wave table worked. Even if I didn’t do it “right”, even if didn’t have the perfect nap experience, somehow it gave my body just what it needed.
Personally, I would love to try the Spa Wave Table experience again, allowing myself to experience it in a way that worked best for me. If you are interested in having your own experience, you can head over to the Spa at Equinox Hudson Yards and book the Quantum Harmonics Brain and Body Boost to test it out for yourself.
