When I walk past a Steve Madden store, it is very obvious to me which designer shoe they were inspired by. Those are Dior slides. There are the Valentino platforms. And here are the Hermes sandals. And o, there are videos galore of all the products that elf references with many of its product launches. We know that counterfeits are wrong (i.e. illegal), but what about unapologetic dupes?
I love a deal. I love getting the look I want for less, but something about outright dupes feels icky. Or is this the same thing that competitor brands have doing for years? Are dupes just good competition or is it lack of innovation?
What are your thoughts on brands making intentional dupes of other brands?
