I picked up the store brand oatmeal container to make my breakfast for the day. Going to pour the grains into my bowl, I could feel the cardboard start to give way in my hand. I steadied it with both hands to avoid disaster. Perhaps they are the exact same oats as the premium brand, but I can tell you now, it is certainly not the same experience.
“It’s just nice packaging.” It’s a dig often at products that seem overpriced. Seemingly, brands are getting away with price gouging all on account of packaging that seems better. With my example not being the only one out there of this, better packaging is actually more valuable. Well, to me it is.
A sturdier canister, a zip and seal bag that actually closes, and caps that have that have that satisfying magnetic closure. These are things that simply hold a product inside while also changing my experience of that product. They improve how I experience of the product, which increases the overall value of the product. Well-made packaging that is intentionally designed is worth more and in turn costs more. To be honest with you, I don’t mind that at all. Give me better packaging any day.
