Rooting for you

I felt great the other day. I cooked a fresh vegetable filled dinner, worked out, and overall had a productive day. I was glad to be getting back into the swing things, back in to myself. It was clear that I was on the path to build the good habits I’ve been hoping for.

And then just a few days later I had fallen off. My sleep was delayed by all of the YouTube videos that I definitely needed to watch and the obscure topics begging to be researched. And while tired from my late nights, I skipped workouts, lazed about, and ate the easy to reach for junk. After being so good early in the week, I fell off.

I could easily get on myself about how I “never” get it right and “never” will. But first, it’s clearly not true, because I have evidence that I can and have taken the steps towards my goal. And second, that thinking isn’t going to help me all. Instead, I am going to embrace the baby steps made and forgive the missteps.

Trying to evolve my habits and improve my life overall is going to take time. It is going to take consistent effort. Most importantly, it is going to be hard. My job as my own cheerleader in this pursuit is to celebrate all of my tiny victories instead of booing myself for my failures.

When I do well, we’ll cheer. When I mess up, we’ll declare that we’ll get them next time. And we will keep rooting for me to win the game.

It’s time for me to become my biggest supporter and cheering squad. Are you rooting for you?

What goals are you trying to reach? How can you celebrate yourself for the progress you’ve made so far, even if it’s tiny?
