Pause before checkout

I moved items to cart. And then I paused to think. After refreshing the page, I noticed more items were marked as sold out. I started panic, worried that I would be missing out if I didn’t act fast during this limited-time sale. And then I closed the laptop, to return to the cart the next day.

Just as I had feared the items I wanted were now sold out, but it was fine. I wouldn’t get such a huge discount again, if ever, but all would be well. I had decided to let go of the scarcity mindset. Learning to stop grasping is working out to be a great money saving tip.

If you are also someone who wants to get a hold of your shopping impulses, this is what worked for me today. I stopped and recognized that this impulse was driven by my fear of scarcity. To combat that and abandon my online shopping cart, I just told myself there will be more in future. There will be another pair of shoes that I like later. There will be more handbags in a similar color palette.

When the time is right, I will be able to find what I want. When the time is right, I will go after what I want, instead of having my choices controlled by a corporations marketing plan. There will be more sales in the future. And if those things never come back again, then they weren’t really that important anyway.
